The Finnish Association of Entertainment Singers

The Finnish Association of Entertainment Singers was founded in 1994 as a nationwide central organization for vocal groups and choirs singing light or "entertainment" music, as the Finnish name implies. The Association is based in Helsinki, and Mr. Urpo Jokinen is the honorary chairman, and the initiator of the idea. Mr. Juha Lindbohm is the chairman at present. The FAES is made up of male, female or mixed choirs, of any size, registered or unregistered, small song groups and individuals interested in this type of vocal music. In the year 2001 the membership consisted of approximately 1100 singers and 40 choirs. The FAES serves its members by arranging training courses and other educational events, as well as concerts. In addition, it acts to promote and improve the acceptance of this type of choral music. Every spring there is a choir meeting for the members with an educational program and performances, and throughout the year FAES supports choir contests and other training activities. Training is offered for choir conductors as well as for the general membership and those in charge of the organization in their choirs. FAES publishes Kuoroviihde, a magazine which appears 2-3 times a year. This magazine is one of the membership benefits.
